The Dollhouse - A Personal Project

I had been looking for what felt like ages for the perfect antique dollhouse to put my personal touches on.

Imagine my joy when I found one on FB Marketplace for 20 bucks complete with mismatched furnishings as well as a few dolls!

To say that this dollhouse was in “worn condition” is an understatement, and yet, it was PERFECTLY imperfect and just what I had envisioned.

And while I HAD wanted this project for so very long…it took me even longer to DO anything with it!

Why do we do that?
Want and acquire then let sit and go to waste?

I know for me, I was stuck so long in the “work mode hustle” mentality that I would feel guilty if I took time with something inside the studio that was NOT for monetary gain.

I knew I needed a creative HOBBY, but the space it was created in felt “wrong” somehow.

Crazy huh?

And yet this sweet little house - made with loving hand for some little child, no doubt - kept calling me to take the time.

So TODAY was the day - a fresh coat of paint was applied to the roof, shutters, and door frame.

I’m still not 100% sure how I’ll tackle the rest of the exterior, but while I mull it over, I thought I’d get started on the only room that I KNEW what I wanted to do in it.

Inspired by the partial piece of hand-painted crate label on the old wall, book page collaged pieces were placed around it to paper what will be the “Reading Room.”

Seen here with just a wee bit of the tattered furniture that came with the house, this room will be complete with new base boards, bookshelves, a stuffed wingback chair, and more!

I can’t wait to take you along for the journey!

Tell me, do you love miniatures, too?
Have you ever renovated and old dollhouse?

I’d love to hear!
