How to EASILY Add Stamped Images to Textured Backgrounds

Today I'd like to share a quick and easy tutorial on how to add stamped images to textured mixed media backgrounds!

(for the short video tutorial, see the YouTube video below, for written tutorial with photographs, read on...)

The Trouble with Texture

Stamped images are a great addition to any mixed media artwork BUT....stamping images ONTO the texture is anything but great. The uneven texture created by the wonderful layers in a mixed media piece will cause breaks in the stamped design resulting in a distorted image.

The Solution!

The solution is actually quite simple and SO easy!

Instead of stamping onto the uneven surface, stamp onto the matte (non shiny) side of plain white gift wrap tissue paper and tear or cut around the edges of the image.

Using a matte medium or matte gel such as this one by Liquitex (affiliate link) and a soft bristled paint brush, brush an area onto your mixed media painting in the spot you want to add your stamped image to.

Place your stamped tissue image onto the wet area of matte medium you've just painted and smooth out the image with the paint brush, adding a thin layer of matte medium OVER the entire stamped image to secure and protect. Be sure to use the bristles of the brush to gently nudge the tissue paper over any deep textures like the edge of the "heart lock" edge as seen below.

Look how you can see the colors and layers showing through the stamped tissue paper!

The matte medium allows the tissue paper to almost become invisible!

Allow your stamped image to dry before adding more wet mediums to it or the edges of the stamped image might lift or tear.

That's it!!

How simple is that?!

I hope this quick and easy tutorial is helpful!
